FIELD JOURNAL 25: The Power of a Well-Timed Hoodie
Plus, Sabah's first boot release, Ridge Wallet sitewide sale, a cool mini moka coffee gadget, and more...
Welcome to FIELD JOURNAL, the place to get Style & Gear News, Outfits, & Inroads for the Adventure-Seeking Man.
Like the imogene + willie hoodie above suggests, this week’s FIELD JOURNAL is all about “Relax.”
“Relax” means staying present. Not holding any one thing in life too hard—money, career, relationships—but rather loosely. Gently.
That’s a LIVE A LITTLE lesson I’m learning in real time. The power of a well-timed hoodie, am I right?

STYLE & GEAR NEWS
Sabah Alto Boot
Pictured in this issue’s OUTFIT is the new Alto Boot—Sabah’s first release in the boot space.

The Alto has everything you’d want in a quality desert boot. Crafted by a small maker in Italy, the Alto Boot comes with a suede upper, leather midsole, and a resolable leather outsole.
They’re priced at $395, so a bit more expensive than, say, a pair of Clarks or even Astorflex (a good leather shoe brand we carry at Huckberry). Overall, I love this release and can’t wait to see what other types of footwear Sabah might dive into next.
Ridge Wallet Anniversary Sale

I’ll always back Ridge Wallet over the Amazon competitors. Yes, you’ll pay double (and maybe even triple) for a full-priced Ridge Wallet. But, the material quality is worth the extra pay, plus you have access to a ton of cool colors, patterns, and logos.
And guess what? Today, you can get a Ridge Wallet on sale, because the brand is running its annual sitewide sale. There’s up to 40% off on specific Ridge Wallet kits. And some OG wallet models are selling for $76 (down from $95).
If you want to know some inside baseball, I used to keep my eye out for this sale when I was at Men’s Health, because the first year I was there I discovered Ridge Wallets drove a ton of affiliate revenue for us. There are no affiliate links to this sale here, though. Just a solid opportunity to pickup a Ridge Wallet at a rare discount.
mokka to go Coffee Maker
My uncle in Kingston, NY loves to back startups on StartEngine and Kickstarter. He’s a nuclear engineer who loves gadgets and gear. I think I’ve caught that habit from him, because now I’m finding myself looking around these crowdfunding platforms nearly every other day.

One of the latest gadgets I found is the “mokka to go”—a mini coffee maker inspired by the OG moka coffee pot. The founder, Sven Jan Hiltbrand, an avid cyclist and bikepacker, thought of the mokka to go when he brought his moka pot on a trip through the French Jura (because it just made coffee so well).
The mokka to go plans to ship out in September of this year. The MSRP will be $149, but early backers can get it for $119. There’s also a “mokka friday” bundle, where you get 2 coffee makers, 2 mugs, and a slew of accessories for $200.

Why You Should Host More Dinner Parties
This article gave me confidence that I don’t have to make some extravagant meal to host a dinner party. My version of a dinner party would look like a backyard cookout with burgers and dogs [Summation and Five Links]
You Weren’t Meant to Sleep Like This
I appreciate this essay for its reframing of how to think about waking up early. Many fitness influencers online will essentially try and make you feel guilty for not starting your day early. I think you have to come at it on your own terms, which is what I believe the author gets to here. A fun and insightful read for sure. [Footnotes]

Every time I’ve popped into I&W recently I consider picking up that hoodie. This just might have been the nudge I needed to actually get it.
