Inside the Kit of a Modern American Watchmaker
These are the things Cameron Weiss of Weiss Watch Company can’t live without.
Welcome to GEAR CHECK: An interview series spotlighting entrepreneurs, artists, and tastemakers through the style and gear essentials they can’t live without.
CAMERON WEISS IS the founder and owner of Weiss Watch Company in Nashville, TN. He makes beautiful, made-in-USA timepieces ranging from field watches to divers, and everything in between.
I first got connected with Cameron here on Substack. He writes Making Time, a newsletter that is dedicated to sharing his journey towards creating a true American watch company. (To this day, Cameron still has one of my favorite Substack reads: It’s his personal story about a long, strange day spent with Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead.)
What I admire most about Cameron is his willingness to bet on himself. In 2013, he traded in prestigious stints at Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin to start Weiss Watch Company. Then, after a few years of business in California, he moved his HQ to Nashville to better align with his vision of reigniting the U.S. watchmaking industry.
One more cool thing about Cameron. He has a natural gift for storytelling. I know I mentioned he’s on Substack, but Cameron is also documenting his life and sharing his expertise on YouTube at The Watchmaker’s Workshop, and over on IG at @CameronMWeiss.
In his GEAR CHECK below, the master watchmaker, entrepreneur, and storyteller shares the things he can’t live without.

CAMERON’S WORDS ON…
Weiss Watches 38mm Standard Automatic Issue Field Watch
The watch where it all started: the Weiss Field Watch. Cameron’s daily driver is the 38mm Standard Automatic Issue, featuring a black dial.
Amigo Frameworks Bugout Bike
Cameron has taken his Amigo Bugout Bike all over the backroads of Tennessee, “It’s my favorite for getting off pavement and exploring country roads and trails.”
Prose Haircare
Cameron’s secret to his luscious flow? It starts with custom, made-for-you haircare products from Prose.
Filson Rugged Twill Briefcase
“I use my Filson bag for work essentials,” says Cameron. “It has broken in beautifully over the years and has yet to fail me.”
Bose SoundLink Flex
Cameron likes to keep everything original on his vintage Land Rover. That means no added stereo systems. “I could never bring myself to tear up the dash to add one, so I use this every day while driving.”
imogene + willie Barton Indigo JP
“I love things that last, including my clothes,” says Cameron. He swears by imogene + willie for denim—as well as Vans for footwear and Garrett Leight for shades.
