FIELD JOURNAL 15: Bulova Snorkel Collection, the Best Pre-Workout Breakfast Foods, New DJI Foldable Drone, and More...
Style & Gear News, Outifts, & Inroads for the adventure-seeking man.
What’s good everyone, hope you’ve been having an easy January.
In STYLE & GEAR NEWS, I’m covering a Bulova watch release that uses the Omega MoonSwatch Collection playbook, followed by a new DJI foldable drone that costs less than $500 and weighs half a pound.
OUTFIT has an outdoors aesthetic, and that’s because I’m going on a hike this weekend. I’ve also been wearing that Fjallraven fleece a ton lately and wanted to show love.
Last are a few INROADS. I recommend reading the National Geographic story first. It’s about a man named Paul Salopek, and he’s been walking the world for over 13 years, retracing the first human migration steps that happened out of Africa over 60,000 years ago. Paul, you are the inaugural winner of the LIVE A LITTLE Man of the Month Award.

Bulova Snorkel Collection
I love a “Gotta catch 'em all” marketing strategy, and the new Bulova Snorkel collection is just that. It’s the same playbook as the Omega MoonSwatch Collection.

The Bulova Snokel watches come in a cool, 1970s-inspired dive design, priced at $350. They’re available in four unique deep sea colorways: Blue Tang, Clown Fish, Great White Shark, and Sea Turtle. The ceramic case design, combined with the bright colors and fun naming, strengthens the argument for the collection being MoonSwatch-coded.
I’m curious to hear any of your thoughts on Snorkel. If I were to get one, I’m going with the Great White Shark color. Sea Turtle is a close second.
DJI Flip Foldable Drone
You know what else is as good as a budget-friendly watch? A sub-$500 drone…that’s legit. DJI just released this sweet folding drone called the Flip. It’s priced at $439, and is being marketed as an all-in-one vlogging + adventure drone. The coolest feature to me is the AI Tracking, which appears to position the Flip into better framing as it follows your movements.

Some key specs include 4K/60FPS HDR video, 249 grams in weight (half a pound), and a 31 minute max flight time. Maybe drone technology will follow suit like smart TVs, where, as the years progress, the tech continues to get better while the cost gets cheaper simultaneously?
Barbour Re-Loved x Noah

Earlier this week, a coworker spoke to me about the Barbour Re-Loved program, specifically this latest release between Barbour x Noah that happened right before the holidays.

This latest release with Noah continues to highlight the marketing savvy of the Barber Re-Loved program. Barbour is finding a way to take something old and make it new, without having to invest a ton of money. Barbour generates hype by partnering with different brands and making these 1/1 pieces. Then, these jackets become art, and the art then drives up the prestige and allure of the Barbour brand.
If someone can’t get the Barbour Re-Loved 1/1, the next thing they’ll do is just go and get the original Barbour jacket. Fun program and smart marketing.
Flint & Tinder Reserve Collection Product Descriptions
We released this badass Texas Reserve Collection this past week, featuring limited edition denim, jackets, and Kudu leather cowboy boots. I believe we shot the campaign somewhere outside Fort Worth, TX. The talent you see in the images is musician Abraham Alexander (@abrahamalexander).
One small part I played in helping get this collection live is writing a few PDPs (product descriptions). The pieces in Texas Reserve Collection have high price points, so I focused on trying to drive home the materials used, plus the exclusivity of each product.

I asked some questions about this on Notes, but I’d love to hear what draws you the most to a product description. Does the large paragraph of text bring you in at all? Is it the bulleted features? The bulleted materials? Reviews first? I want to master style and gear PDPs, and that comes down to getting you guys the key information about a product.

The Man Who’s Been Walking the Earth for Over a Decade
Paul Salopek is entering year 13 of retracing human’s first migration out of Africa. What’s cool is that the Nat Geo explorer and journalist has a digital footprint of his entire journey. I especially loved this gear layout of Paul’s, photographed in 2013 [National Geographic]
The Best Pre-Workout Breakfast Foods, According to Dietitians
The author breaks down foods you should eat based on time closest to workout. She lists foods to eat less than 30 minutes before a workout, 30-60 minutes, and then 1-2 hours [Bar Bend]
Under the Influence: Presidential Style Over the Decades
I always enjoy a good essay about the personal style of U.S. Presidents. This essay does a cool job mapping out the specific pieces and aesthetics of our past leaders [Gentleman’s Journal]

THANKS FOR READING
Leave a comment if you wanna chat. I dig speaking with like-minded people.
How does the Garmin compare to say, an Apple Watch? Are you pairing it with an iPhone?
A good product description is what draws me in. I hardly look through the bulleted features.
Most important is the product images. Static shots on a white background look nice, but I need to see it on someone and in action. The most important bulleted features should be showcased with a photo. A close-up of a breast pocket gets my mind moving a lot more than reading about it, but may not be the case for everyone.
